HONOR BAND AUDITIONS

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Percussionists MUST audition in all three areas of snare, mallets, and timpani. The final score will be the sum of your scores and the sightreading score in one area of your choice.
TIMPANI
1. TUNE INTERVALS
You will be asked to tune two intervals from the following:

Perfect 4th

Perfect 5th
-
Minor 3rd
-
High schoolers add Major 3rd
You will first tune a drum to a specific pitch with a pitch pipe, then tune a second drum to a given interval higher than the first drum. Tuning gauges may not be used.

SNARE
1. RUDIMENTS
You will be asked to play three rudiments from the following list. Play all open-close-open (meaning slow-->fast-->slow) except for the multiple bounce roll. Click the link for a play-along track from the Vic Firth website.

MALLETS
1. SCALES
You will be asked to play three scales from the following: C, F, G, Bb, D, Eb, Ab and chromatic. High schoolers add the rest of the major scales. Play as many octaves as you can. Chromatic is over the entire instrument.
